How soon can I book services for my wedding date or a trial session?
You can book hair and makeup services up to one year in advance. If your wedding is more than one year away, please check back closer to this timeframe. To secure your date, a non-refundable deposit is required. Unfortunately, we cannot hold any dates without a deposit. I work on a first-come-first-serve basis, so once your deposit is received, your event date will be reserved.
I recommend scheduling your trial session as early as possible. Booking your event date early ensures availability, especially for wedding season, which tend to fill up quickly. The sooner you do your trial and secure your date, the better, especially if booking for a weekend!
Do you travel?
Yes, I travel to your homes, hotels, or venues anywhere within a 75-miles radius ( approximately1.5 hour drive) of Springfield, VA 22151. For locations beyond this distance, a minimum package is required. Please note that I do not travel for trials, which are scheduled in Springfield, VA 22151.
How much time will my makeup & hair take?
Bridal hair & makeup typically takes about 2 hours, while non-bridal hair & makeup services usually require 1 to 1 hour 15 minutes, depending on any add-ons. Extra time is dedicated to the bride to ensure her look is flawless for the big day. To keep everything running smoothly, please share your timeline in advance. Trials will guarantee that makeup is done more efficiently.
Do I need a bridal trial?
Trials are not always necessary however, if you haven’t applied makeup before or are under a time constraint with a large bridal party, I do recommend doing a trial so it helps your wedding run smoothly and efficiently. Clients that do a trial run can be finished up to 20 minutes sooner than clients who chose not to. It is a good time to discuss and try the potential looks that will work best for you. It also helps me to learn how your skin reacts to new cosmetics.
Besides the bride, can Duyen do everyone in my bridal party?
I do my best to work with all members of the bridal party however larger group may require a second makeup artist or assistant. My absolute maximum is 5 makeup & 5 hair services ( including for the bride) within about a 6 hour time frame. For bridal parties of 4 or less people, I will be able to accommodate everyone. For bridal parties that are larger than that or under a time constraint, I will bring a second artist or an assistance to ensure the bridal party is ready on time.
What is the difference between bridal makeup and bridesmaid/ party makeup?
Time: it typically takes about 75 - 90 mins for a bride and 45mins - 1 hour for each bridesmaid or party client. We’d like to spend more time on the bride to make sure everything is perfect for her even if it’s just a simple look.
Techniques: Bridesmaid’s makeup look will be softer than bridal makeup but still is based on clients preferences. In bridal makeup, we will have additional steps ( such as eyelid taping, defining eyelids or hair-strokes eyebrow techniques ….) to ensure that the bride looks great in or out cameras . We will focus more on prepping the skin, layering blending, and setting the makeup to ensure that the makeup lasts the whole day.
How long does the makeup last?
Making sure your makeup last throughout the day is always my top priority. I prep the skin, apply the makeup, and set everything in place perfectly to ensure that nothing moves. My brides always say that their makeup lasts all night! A tip to making sure your makeup stays on is to blot the happy wedding tears, rather than wiping them away, then pad some loose powder on. I also recommend that the bride bring her lipstick with her for touch ups throughout the day. Lipstick is the only thing that may need to be touched up.
What type of makeup do you use?
As an makeup artist, I understand the sensitivity of different types of facial skin and only use the highest quality products. I use a wide range of makeup and skincare brands. Some of the brands I carry in my kit are Nars, Makeup Forever, Dior, Givenchy, Tarte, Urban Decay, Anastasia Beverly Hills, M.A.C and some popular Korean products like Laneige, 3CE, Jung Saem Mool etc.
Do I need a touch up?
If you are concerned about your makeup moving, I do offer a touch up service. If you have a tea ceremony in the morning then the reception in the evening, I will be with you before the reception start to do touch ups or to change your look and/or hair for the night. After many hugs, kisses, and happy tears, a touch up service will sure be a great time to refresh your look. I will work with you and your photographers to ensure the best results.
Do you offer airbrush makeup?
We don't offer airbrush services. Although the finish of an airbrush makeup is flawless, it may have very full coverage effect. Traditional makeup has more radiant look and can be better customized to fit for all skin types, especially for textured skin.
What should I do before my big day?
Washing your hair a day before the wedding day. If your hair is super oily, you can wash it on the wedding day but make sure blow-dry it completely before our session.
Using a hydrating sheet mask prior to makeup application is a super effective way to get a healthy glow skin.
If you have texture skin, it's best to exfoliate at least three days before your wedding.
